Generic Zetia is used for treating high blood cholesterol along with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. It may be used alone or with other medicines. It is also used to treat high blood sitosterol and campesterol along with diet therapy.
EZETIMIBE blocks the absorption of cholesterol from the stomach. It can help lower blood cholesterol for patients who are at risk of getting heart disease or a stroke. It is only for patients whose cholesterol level is not controlled by diet.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
liver disease
an unusual or allergic reaction to ezetimibe, medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
pregnant or trying to get pregnant
breast-feeding
How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. This medicine can be taken with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.
Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
What may interact with this medicine?
Do not take this medicine with any of the following:
fenofibrate
gemfibrozil
This medicine may also interact with the following:
antacids
cyclosporine
herbal medicines like red yeast rice
other medicines to lower cholesterol or triglycerides

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if you get any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if you also have a fever and tiredness.
You need to follow a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet while you are taking this medicine. This will decrease your risk of getting heart and blood vessel disease. Exercising and avoiding alcohol and smoking can also help. Ask your doctor or dietician for advice.
What side effects may I notice from this medicine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:
allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
dark yellow or brown urine
unusually weak or tired
yellowing of the skin or eyes
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
diarrhea
dizziness
headache
stomach upset or pain

Where should I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Protect from moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
